Why do we sing so much about the cross?

At BC we have tried to be very intentional to sing songs that fix our thoughts on Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.   Because of our desire to be deliberate about this that we actually have a check list we use for songs that asks the following questions:

True repentance

In the book of Jonah, chapter 1, we see:

God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh and Jonah disobeys; Jonah sins.
Jonah boards a ship, God sends a storm, and is thrown overboard.
God sends a fish to swallow up Jonah.

In chapter 2 we see:

Jonah cries out in distress and is heard (and saved).
Jonah prays and thanks God.
